Dear Editor,

The Silkwood, Kurrimine and Bruce Highway crossroad is one of the most dangerous intersections in North Queensland. This intersection has one of the highest counts of car crashes on highway 1 – our countries major highway.

This intersection is deadly and has caused hundreds of accidents and near misses over the years.

This is the intersection from hell and it is badly in need of two offset access roads on either side of the Kurrimine and Silkwood turnoffs. Both would run into a T-junction with merging lanes, which would force drivers to slow down and allow vehicles to merge and exit safely.

This is the sixth time we have made this plea.

It’s only a matter of time before another tragedy occurs and immediate action must be taken to fix this highway hazard permanently.
