Letter to the Editor - Port Hinchinbrook
2013-06-12

Dear Editor,

If the sale of Port Hinchinbrook has indeed gone through then this is a wonderful moment of all for all the people that have been fighting this battle for the past 29 months.

Congratulations to all those people in Cardwell and those specifically in Port Hinchinbrook who have kept face and kept their tiger in their tank as this issue has escalated. Thank you to the people of Port Hinchinbrook for their resilience since Yasi struck over 2 years ago – you have been tremendous fighters.

Your unwavering attendance at our many community meetings meant we were able to keep continuous pressure from a Federal level on the Government and I think every endeavour we have made has helped to produce this terrific result.

Although this is a huge win, our work is not quite finished. Our next step is to focus on moving the ownership of the ponded section of Port Hinchinbrook to community ownership as soon as humanly possible.

This once-thriving community has been given a fresh start. Together we will continue to rebuild and restore the Port to its former glory and shape its way into a prosperous 2014 onwards.

Sincerely yours,
Hon Bob Katter MP,
KAP Federal Leader & Federal Member for Kennedy
