Dear Editor,
I have written to the Federal Minister for Veteran Affairs, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP demanding a public apology regarding the Government spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on consultants to tell Australians how to celebrate the most
important national centenary of ANZAC Day and honour our heroic fighting spirit. The centenary of ANZAC day is a day for veterans and their families, and for the general public, to acknowledge the sacrifices Australians have made and continue to make for our country.
It is not to be, and should not be, trivialised. ANZAC Day should be a celebration of national identity, commemorating Australian traits such as mateship, courage and compassion.
Bureaucrats should not be dictating or investigating how Australians should be celebrating our own nationality. The Department of Veteran Affairs does not own ANZAC Day; it lives in the memory of those who served and their descendents, for which I am one.
It is humiliating that taxpayers had to pay for this report and is yet another example of the "FreedomReapers" making us feel guilty for what we have traditionally done as Australians.
