Despite voting with the Government to pass its $158 billion tax cuts this week, KAP leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter said the Government should be focused on “building its way out of recession” rather than spending its way out with tax breaks.
The RBA cut interest rates again to a record level but Mr Katter said that was no longer the key to stimulating a stagnant economy.
“They are using monetary policy and it just doesn’t work. It’s the old, free marketeers at it again. They were horrific failures in the 1800s and it is failing now,” he said.
Mr Katter said Winston Churchill’s often-quoted mantra, “those who cannot learn from history are doomed to re-suffer it” was particularly relevant.
“The again famous quote of Maynard Keynes, ‘in a recession, it pays one group of people to dig a hole, and another group of people to fill the hole in’, but I am sure Keynes would agree that it makes infinitely better sense to dig the hole, fill it with water and then spread it out on the ground to grow grass,” Mr Katter said.
He also met with Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack this week to raise concerns that the State ALP Government would continue to stall water development projects in North Queensland by bogging them down in endless bureaucracy, management plans and reports.
“Our drought is starting to look like greatest dry in the nation’s history and the Queensland Government has not grasped this or is simply not interested in solving this destructive holocaust called drought.
“Let’s build some dams and weirs for irrigation; they are there, they are ready!
“And if the dead weight of coffins created by Palaszczuk and Trad contain every imaginative and sensitive proposal, let’s just warn them that the Texas rangers of this town, Texas rangers called the KAP, are coming for you,” he said.
“And you better get a lot more coffins because some peculiar malfunction in the democratic system gave all the seats in North Queensland to a body called the ALP who have managed to betray every principle that their party was created to achieve.”
Mr Katter warned, “Don’t worry, the big lions are coming.”
