KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter is happy to be informed today that phone services have been restored at Tully’s Meals on Wheels after an almost two-month outage, following his call for action.
The reconnection comes after Mr Katter made an official complaint to Telstra on Wednesday, slamming the company for failing to reconnect the phone and alleviate the enormous inconvenience to the vital volunteer service.
At the time, he said it was a disgrace that such poor customer service had been shown to an important community organisation.
“I’d say there must be 100 organisations and individuals that are waiting weeks and months on end for Telstra to fix a problem and sadly today, you also need an internet connection, so a mobile phone is of no use to meet the needs of modern society,” he said.
The outage, which followed a significant week-long landline outage at Julia Creek Hospital in February which was also rectified after Mr Katter demanded a resolution, pointed to a wider problem, Mr Katter said.
In the 1990s, he opposed the proposed sale of Telstra, saying there was simply no way to ensure services to country towns.
“The Telstra reports keep failing and it gives me no joy to say ‘I told you so’,” Mr Katter said.
“When you sell off your assets, you’re selling Australians out.”
