Saluting Their Service' - Atherton and Edmonton get Federal funds
2018-12-19

KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Hon Bob Katter is pleased two grants have been approved under the Commemorations Program for Edmonton and Atherton in the category Saluting Their Service.

A $4,000 grant was awarded to the Edmonton RSL Branch to install a Long Tan Cross and two plaques at the RSL Cenotaph. Tablelands Regional Council have been granted $3,637 to install interpretive signage in Atherton for the War Memorial in Remembrance Park.

“The amount of work that has to go into securing these grants is huge and we pay great tribute to those people who have done the hard work in securing this money for our area. We must pay them great tribute, thanks and gratitude,” Mr Katter said.

Mr Katter’s great grandad’s brother died at Gallipoli and he’s always had a steely commitment to honouring the memory of our Aussie diggers.

“A nation that doesn’t honour its soldiers is a nation that is not really a nation at all.”

The program is an Australian Government initiative that aims to honour the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service men and women in wars, conflicts and peace operations, and to promote appreciation and understanding of the role that those who served have played in shaping the nation.
