KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter has thanked the Tablelands Regional Council and all the wonderful people who worked so ‘tenaciously’ to secure a $20 000 grant under the Armistice Centenary Grants Program (ACGP).

The ACGP is for community-based projects and activities that will commemorate the end of the First World War and pay tribute to our Australian servicemen and women. 

Mr Katter knows funding like this doesn’t just drop out of the sky and he has praised the Council and those who supported the application.

“The amount of work that has to go into securing these grants is huge and we pay great tribute to those people who have done the hard work in securing this money for our area. We must pay them great tribute, thanks and gratitude.”

Mr Katter’s great grandad’s brother died at Gallipoli and he’s always had a steely commitment to honouring the memory of our Aussie diggers.

“A nation that doesn’t honour its soldiers is a nation that is not really a nation at all.” 

The grant will be used to fund the ‘Roads of Remembrance Project’. Themed signs will be created for roads and streets in the region that are named after people, places or events associated with WW1. 

The Council is looking for community assistance to help identify the roads that fit the criteria. The public can email communityengagement@trc.qld.gov.au or call 1300 362 242. 

Tablelands Regional Council Acting Mayor Katrina Mellick said, “It will be great to honour, and have a permanent reminder of the sacrifices made by Australian men and women during this time.”
