15 March 2018: KAP Federal Member for Kennedy Hon Bob Katter MP and State Member for Hill Shane Knuth MP met with Mission Beach Surf Life Saving Club member Dyana Brown to congratulate her on being selected for the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.

“Dyana is a very personable, iconic Australian. She epitomises the Australian image, she was also a winner in the toughest competition in the world - the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

“I think we should contact local operators and make a lot more use of having such a famous person in our midst. She will be one of the most prominent participants in the Commonwealth Games,” said Mr Katter.
On being a part of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony Dyana said, “It’s a bit daunting. It’s been a while since I’ve been a part of this type of thing– I’ve had two sets of twins since then!”
“It means a lot and brings back memories of when I was representing Australia for the Commonwealth Games,” said 42yo Dyana, who lives in Mission Beach.
Dyana will be travelling down to the Gold Coast on the 22 March for a two day rehearsal followed by the big event on April 4.
Background:
Dyana Brown represented Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and the 2001 Manchester and 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games.
At the Manchester 2001 Commonwealth Games Dyana won Gold for the 50m back and Silver for the 100m back.
At the Sydney 2000 Olympics Dyana won Silver in the medley relay (back) with Leisel Jones (breastroke), Petria Thomas (butterfly), Susie O’Neil (freestyle) and made the 100m backstroke final where she came 7th.
Since retirement Dyana had two sets of twins and moved to Mission Beach where she works at the local Woolworths and volunteers at the MBSLSC.
