Grants up for grabs in $150k Stronger Communities fund
2017-07-06

KAP Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter MP has invited eligible community organisations to apply for grants for small capital projects that help promote social participation and contribute to vibrant and viable local communities across the electorate.

Mr Katter said the Federal Government guidelines had been released for applications for grants ranging from $2500 up to $20,000 – to fund up to half the cost of eligible projects – from $150,000 available in round three of the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.

“These are excellent little grants – we really need them to get small projects off the ground,” he said.

Mr Katter said the town of Richmond was one example of how the grants could provide significant social benefits to small communities.

“A little tiny grant of $5000 given to Richmond grew into a half-a-million-dollar leading interpretive Mesozoic museum in Kronosaurus Korner,” he said.

“Previous grants awarded the electorate have assisted our Men’s Sheds, surf clubs, and rural fire station fit-outs; and are available for a range of eligible projects such as community centre fit-outs, sporting facility upgrades, furniture and barbecues in our parks, purchasing equipment for local SES groups, or even schools projects that deliver benefits to the broader community.”

The grants of between $2500 and $20,000 are available for projects in which community contributions are matched in-cash or in-kind, on a minimum dollar-for-dollar basis, and scheduled for completion by 30 June 2018.

“We encourage all community-based incorporated not-for-profit organisations, local governing bodies and legal entities with small capital projects in our local communities to make the most of this program,” said Mr Katter.

Projects to be considered for a grant application must submit an Expression of Interest to Mr Katter’s office by 3 August 2017.
