9 May 2017: KAP Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter has today, as the Federal Budget looms, today asked a Question during Question Time to the Minister for Energy on nation-building projects for North Queensland.
Mr Katter has highlighted four North Queensland projects which together will generate over $21B a year and $6B a year in tax.
"Minister for Energy, you’re aware of,
· Hell’s Gates Dam:- Irrigation, Baseload power, Townsville Water supply earning $3,000m a year.
· Galilee Coal Rail line:- $6,000m.
· Phosphate Fertiliser Project :-Burketown’s First Australian ‘YIPIPI Transportation Waterway’ with prawn farms $7,000m.
· Cape York Silicon:- the solar key $5,000m.
$21B a year, $6b in tax."
Mr Katter has long led the push for Government initiated and owned productive infrastructure which generates income and wealth for the Australian People; rather than privatisation which allows the corporate owner to charge the Australian people whatever it wants, for forever.
Mr Katter then appealed to the Minister’s nation-building ambitions and pointed to other political leaders and their legacies.
"If you initiated the North Australian Snowy Mountains Authority to build these four projects, as initiator would you then become a Ben Chifley a great nation-builder, as was a prior Member for Kooyong, Robert Menzies ?" Mr Katter ended.
