21 April 2017: KAP Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter and KAP State Member for Mount Isa Robbie Katter are both delighted to welcome triple j’s One Night Stand to Mount Isa, although one of the Katter men is disappointed not to have been asked to perform.

“I’m not offended I wasn’t asked to play, unlike my father who is still licking his wounds,” asserted Robbie Katter.

Bob Katter said, “being an outstanding, sought-after artist myself, albeit in the country music genre, I respect the rock genre because it was born out of country music.” Bob Katter qualified with “I respect rock - as a lesser genre.”

Self-deprecating humour aside, both Katter men are looking forward to the concert which will be in Mount Isa on Saturday 22 April, 4pm at the Tony White Oval.

Robbie Katter said, “We are swept up in the excitement and I know all of my friends in the town will be there with bells on.

“This will showcase the region and gives everyone a chance in town to show what a western wonderland we live in,” Robbie Katter said.

“Many people say that road between Cloncurry and Mt Isa is the most beautiful drive in the world, far be it for me to be humble, it is my homeland,” boasted Bob Katter.

“We welcome you to our homeland. Just remember this homeland is where QANTAS was started, where ‘Waltzing Matilda’ was written and where Dame Mary Gilmore is buried,” Bob Katter reflected.

One Night Stand is an all ages concert hosted by triple j. It is a drug and alcohol free event, gold coin donation upon entry going to Mount Isa based youth charity. The line-up includes, The Smith Street Band, San Cisco, Tash Sultana and Thundamentals.

“I hope everyone in town gets behind the event and I have no doubt they will be good hosts for our city cousins,” Mr Robbie Katter concluded.
