Katter's Commission into the banks will get up
2017-03-20

Today KAP Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter announced he will introduce legislation to bring on a People of Australia Commission of Inquiry into the banks next Monday the 27 March.
The Commission will have the powers more extensive than a Royal Commission.
Mr Katter has been in discussions with his fellow crossbench, the ALP and members of the LNP.
“We are very confident we have the numbers and this will be a very humiliating defeat if they persist in defying the will of the people," Mr Katter said.
The Member for Dawson, George Christensen has been quite clear that he will cross the floor and there’s no doubt in my mind that he will. He is a great rarity in Canberra, a politician with conviction.”
Mr Katter said the very best the Government can hope for is a 75/74 vote,
“If the Government chooses to act in defiance of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, then there they’re running into a full blown constitutional confrontation. The Executive Arm choosing to defy the will of the people… well today Hobart MP Andrew Wilkie described such defiance as an ‘evil act’, not just unconstitutional but evil he said.
“We’re talking about the basis of democracy. We live in a representative democracy. When the representatives of the people vote for something and the Executive Arm refuses to allow the will of the people to prevail, then we are not in a democratic process, we’re in some other sort of process.
“Tony Burke MP, Manager of Opposition Business said there is no way the Government can openly defy the will of the people as expressed in the Lower House and as expressed in the Upper House.
“If the Government chooses to defy the will of the people, those hundreds of thousands of Australians who’ve been destroyed by the banks will take out their wrath (and remember a lot of them are in business and farming who would normally be Coalition voters), they’ll be bloody minded. Many of them marched off their farms, out of their shops, some literally at gunpoint after generations of sacrifice blood, sweat and tears…they’ll be listening to Henry Lawson and, ‘..But now that we have made the land. A garden full of promise, Old Greed must crook 'is dirty hand. And come ter take it from us.”
