Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter thinks the Government’s proposal of another banking tribunal instead of a Royal Commission is suspicious.
Mr Katter said, “We oughta be very suspicious when someone like the Government doesn’t want an inquiry.
“Anyone who has ever been to the banking ombudsman or ASIC or APRA would not be thrilled at the news of yet another tribunal. These bodies are our watchdogs… but most people refer to them as black dogs. And very sadly, on behalf of the banks, they’ve sometimes been attack dogs.
“I myself and another Senior Minister called on the Fitzgerald Inquiry into police corruption. We called the inquiry and we got to the heart of the corruption and succeeded in removing one of the two people responsible at great cost to ourselves as the Government. We knew the dangers. We showed great courage and moral commitment. But we were not rewarded for our moral commitment. We were spat upon. The inquiry about police corruption became an inquiry about Government corruption. Not one single conviction was ever recorded for Government corruption. The four Ministers who were jailed, were jailed for such outrageous crimes like using their Government car to drive up and see their kids at a boarding school one weekend. But the vilification by the delusional Left and their friends in the media managed to do to us what they did to Ted Theodore, Australia’s greatest son…
“My point being, the Government is fearful of a Royal Commission. But we did it in Qld, and Qld is a better place for it.
“It’s not so much corrupt practices by banks, it is a corrupted system and I don’t believe it can be weeded-out without a Royal Commission
“And I also think there are numerous people in the banks that would be secretly praying for that commission.
They don’t want to have to do what the system currently forces them to do.”
