KAP Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter says he will turn the LNP’s new found interest in the Karumba Port dredging issue into a post-election guarantee.
“Now that its election time and the LNP have found a road map to Karumba and now they’re very concerned, well, we’re going to turn that concern into money. We’ve already drawn up the proposals to make Karumba the live export port for Australia,” said Mr Katter.
“Karumba Port is the lifeblood of the Gulf and can play a critical role in Queensland’s economy.
“Our party has been on this issue for a while now and we welcome Government interest, Federal or State,” said Mr Katter.
KAP State Member for Mount Isa, Robbie Katter has asked two Questions on Notice in the past 12 months on the issue, calling on the State Government to reinvest some of the $500 million it has received in mine taxes and royalties into dredging the channel. So far there has been no action.
Bob Katter asks the question, “What do you have a Government for if they can’t dredge a port?”
“There is no doubt that we need some serious loan guarantee monies here and we’ll do our own bloody dredging. What are they using their money for? They repair roads but they can’t dredge a port! The port channel has exactly the same function,” said Mr Katter.
