Congratulations to the 11 successful grant recipients

KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter has congratulated the 11 successful grant recipients for Round One of the Stronger Communities Programme (SCP) for the Kennedy electorate.

The SCP grant programme is available to non-for-profit community organisations and shire councils.

Kennedy Electorate had a high application rate for a share of the allotted $150,000 in Round One grants with 42 preliminary submissions totalling over $520,000.

Final selection by the Kennedy Community Committee and Mr Katter was a tough process.

“The standard of applications was remarkable and there are many very worthwhile projects at play across the electorate.”

Mr Katter announced Kennedy Electorate’s 11 successful recipients for Round One of the SCP grant are:

  • Burke Shire Council: $20,000 – for the Gregory Community Hall Upgrade project.
  • Cloncurry Shire Council: $20,000 – for the Cloncurry Recreation Ground – Main Oval Irrigation Upgrade project.
  • Flinders Shire Council: $16,511 – for the Hughenden Football Field – Automated Sprinkler System project.
  • Innisfail District Cricket Association: $5,800 – for the Innisfail District Cricket Club – Turf and Nets Upgrade Project.
  • McKinlay Shire Cultural Association: $5,001 – for the Jan Eckford Centre – Fixtures and Furniture Upgrade project.
  • McKinlay Race Club: $18,182 – for the McKinlay Sport and Recreation Reserve – Grandstand Upgrade project.
  • Mount Isa City Council: $5,818 – for the Facility Upgrade for Lions Youth Camp project.Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Mount Isa: $6,267 – for the Jangawala Drop-in Centre Upgrade project.
  • Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council: $15,409 – for the Yarrabah Arts Precinct Rainforest Boardwalk Completion project.
  • Mornington Shire Council: $20,000 – Mornington Island Sports Oval Upgrade project.
  • Charters Towers RC Car Club Inc: $17,012 – Installation of lighting and purchase high output power generator for the Millchester Motor Sport & Recreational facility users.

The SCP grant is designed to fund small capital projects supporting local communities to deliver social benefits and contribute towards the vibrancy and viability of communities.

The infrastructure grant is for small capital projects with funding from $5,000 up to $20,000 and projects must have confirmed matching cash or in-kind funding on at least a dollar for dollar basis.

“We have encouraged all community based incorporated not-for-profit organisations, local government bodies and legal entities with small capital projects in the local communities to make the most of this programme,” Mr Katter said.

Currently for Round Two the Kennedy Electorate has received over 25 preliminary submissions, totalling more than $250,000.

Mr Katter wishes the various community organisations and councils all the best of luck with their worthy submissions for Round Two.
