Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter today called for the Mission Beach Clump Point ‘breakwater’ to be constructed immediately, but launched a scathing attack on the State Member for Hinchinbrook and former LNP Minister over his bungling of the process.

“There is going to be blood everywhere unless there is a breakwater built from Clump Point immediately,” Mr Katter said.

“The money has now been sitting there for over three years, but a little town where over 23 businesses have closed is being strangled to death by Government inaction.

“The complete stupidity of having a stone sausage at the end of a jetty that can’t operate, that’s been declared unsafe, boggles the mind.

“We want to put on public record our ‘thanks’ to the local LNP State Member, who was the Minister responsible when the decision was made to stop work on the breakwater and build a sausage on the end of a jetty that can’t be used.

“But he’s out of the picture now, so we’re free to move, and we’ll be moving with great aggression - God help anyone who stands in our way.

“We’ve already had discussions with State Minister Lynham and I was very pleased with the outcome of those discussions.

“But we will not allow another day go by where this little community will be strangled by Government restrictions and incompetence.”

Mr Katter said that there were terrific initiatives happening in the Cassowary Coast region when it came to tourism, but to progress the construction of the breakwater was vital.

“Mark Evans has great plans for the Mamu Skywalk outside of Innisfail.

“We should soon see a crucifix up on Mount Bartle Frere to attract tourists from round the world.

“And we applaud the work done by Brenton Gangemi of Snapping Tours and his tours to spot crocodiles.

“But for the real tourism to go ahead, we need the Mission Beach breakwater,” Mr Katter said.
