Katter announces first round of Stronger Communities Funding for Kennedy
2015-11-16

Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter is today delighted to announce the first round of successful funding grants under the Stronger Communities Programme Funding (SCPF) for Kennedy.

The SCPF grants are available to support small capital projects to improve local community participation and contribute to the community’s vibrancy and viability.

The community interest in round one of the SCPF grants was very strong in the Kennedy electorate, receiving 42 preliminary applications totalling over $520,000 in value.

After a rigorous application process, the successful applicants announced in the first round of funding are:

  • Cloncurry Shire Council: $20,000 – Cloncurry Recreation Ground, main oval irrigation upgrade project.
  • Burke Shire Council: $20,000 – Gregory Community Hall upgrade project.
  • Mount Isa City Council: $5,818 – Facility upgrade for Lions Youth Camp project, improvement to outdoor areas, shade sail and interior items.
  • McKinlay Shire Cultural Association: $5,001 – Jan Eckford Centre, fixtures and furniture upgrade project.
  • Mt Isa Good Shepherd Parish: $6,267 – Jangawala Drop-In Centre Upgrade.
  • Flinders Shire Council: $16,511 – Hughenden football field external sprinkler system project.
  • Innisfail District Cricket Association: $5,800 – Turf and nets upgrade project.

Mr Katter today praised those who had worked hard putting in applications, as well as the Kennedy Consultation Committee who had assessed the applications at a preliminary stage.

“We want to thank all of the people that worked hard in putting in and processing these applications,” Mr Katter said.

“These things don’t just drop out of the sky, people work very hard to get them and they bring money and improvement into our towns.”

The Kennedy electorate was the first to lodge all SCPF applications, resulting in the first set of approvals by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

Round two of SCPF applications will be processed in February 2016 and further applications are encouraged.
