KENNEDY MP, Bob Katter and the KAP put terrific pressure on the Federal Government while it was considering appealing the live export decision that was handed down in favour of cattle producers.

Mr Katter thanked the LNP Government for finally doing the right thing, after they announced they would not appeal the Federal Court’s ruling that deemed the 2011 Gillard Government decision to ban live export of cattle to Indonesia invalid.

“I can’t help but say that it was ever considered just appals me, but it has been a great outcome,” he said.

“In this decision, the Government has been told they can’t go out and destroy the property right of other people and not pay compensation for it.

“Magna Carta said you the Crown are not allowed to go around wrecking our property rights and our property. That was Magna Carta, and our forebears have died for it down the ages.”

Mr Katter said lead-plaintiff in the class action, Emily Brett was his superstar.

”You may say one person can’t change the world? Well one person can – and that’s Emily Brett.

“God Bless Emily Brett. And God Bless the people who have fought with her. Emily lost her husband in a tragic helicopter mustering accident along the way, but she never lost hope. What an amazing woman she is.”

The Member for Kennedy said the ruling set strong precedence for the taxi owners who were destroyed by State Governments’ decisions to legalise ridesharing and devalue their taxi licences, as well as the dairy industry who were crippled by Government deregulation.

“We are going back in on the taxi case with great aggression; this gives us great hope,” he said.
