KAP Leader Bob Katter today said that KAP would back Member for Nicklin Peter Wellington’s calls for an investigation by the Qld Electoral Commission and the Qld Police into the LNP’s reported comments that promises to voters would not be fulfilled unless the local LNP candidate was elected.

In far North Queensland the LNP were reported as promising $15 million for the Mareeba airport, but said it would not be delivered unless the LNP candidate was elected.

“If the comments by the Premier were as reported, it clearly raises the issue of inducement and threats,” Mr Katter said.

“If there were inducements and threats then the law has been breached.

“The Premier has made his promises conditional upon the public voting for the LNP. He simply cannot say that he will build a stadium or an airport only on condition that a LNP candidate gets elected.

“They’re not characterised as clever this mob, Newman took a 78 seat majority and is clearly in danger of losing Government three years later.

“But even they should be able to work out what is an inducement and what is not.

“Our party will be joining Peter Wellington in making a formal complaint to the Qld Electoral Commission and the Qld Police,” Mr Katter said.

Mr Katter called on the public not to believe any of the promises of the LNP Government.

“They promised not to sack Government employees, they sacked 15,000. They promised to build dams, not one fish pond has been built. They promised not to raise electricity prices, they’ve gone up 39%. They promised to build a railway line into the Galilee coal fields, not one shovel load of dirt has been moved in three years.

“Good bye can-do, hello gunna-do,” Mr Katter said.
