KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy the Hon. Bob Katter MP is appalled that the State Government is considering offering a foreign corporation money to recover dredged soil at Abbot Point.
The Queensland Government have reached agreement with Indian companies to dredge waste from Abbot Point coal terminal onshore rather than the Great Barrier Reef.
This is subject to agreement from the Federal Environmental Minister.
If the agreement is reached the Queensland Government may consider purchasing the material from Adani and GVK to reclaim land at Abbot Point to accommodate the $24 Billion worth of coal expected to be exported from the port.
“The government in their haste to approve applications has resulted in tax payer forking out more subsidies for foreign companies,” Mr Katter said.
“Charging the tax payer for another blatant mistake is just ludicrous and not a solution to alleviate the government’s towering stupidity. This is an outrageous waste of public money, a very costly mistake.
“The Premier has laid claim that the previous government was to blame for this debacle but this is not the case, the dredging was approved in December 2013 by the newly elected LNP Minister for the Environment,” Mr Katter said.
