KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter yesterday called on Qantas CEO Alan Joyce to immediately resign after the airline announced a $2.84 billion loss.
Mr Katter asked the Minister for Infrastructure in the Australian Parliament yesterday, whether the Qantas CEO should be sacked, considering in six years alone Mr Alan Joyce has paid himself $22 million.
“Profits were $1 billion a year and since Mr Joyce became CEO of Qantas, we now have losses of nearly $3 billion.
“Or does the Government know that the financial records have been presented in such a way as to provoke the fear, alarm and pressure needed to force our workforce offshore and sell the airline overseas,” said Mr Katter.
The Minister for Infrastructure avoided the Question, despite Mr Katter reinforcing that safety standards are at risk and Australian jobs and maintenance are being sent offshore.
“The Government is so obsessed with selling the airline overseas and little interested in the workers who are the company – not the fat corporates that run the company.
“Qantas to date, belonged to the Australian people,” said Mr Katter.
Mr Katter introduced laws into the Australian Parliament which would ensure that Australian airlines can only access domestic flights and ports by meeting a definition of “Australia”; namely that the airline conducts at least 80 per cent of its aircraft maintenance in Australia and airline crews must reside in Australia.
