KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter is supportive of the abolition of the Carbon Tax, but will vote to keep the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
Mr Katter is supportive of abolition the Carbon Tax, however he does not feel it will make much of a difference to the tax payer’s hip pocket.
“The average consumer is paying a bit more than 11 per cent a year with the carbon tax. I am all for the Carbon Tax Repeal but don’t think that it will stop electricity prices from going up. A 10 per cent cut back will be absorbed in one year with the spectacular rise in electricity prices since corporatisation,” he said.
Mr Katter is supportive of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) continuing its work of financing projects many of which are in rural and remote Australia.
“As far as I’m concerned greens are what you eat with a good T-bone steak, but I am very supportive of the CEFC” Mr Katter said.
“The CEFC are the only government body that instrumentality hands out money and can raise money for projects.
"We’ve got the Pentland irrigation project at Charters Towers with massive reductions in electricity costs, introducing renewable energy projects and promoting clean fuel (Ethanol) and can take CO2 to produce cattle fuel algae that the CEFC is instrumental stakeholders in.
"Abolishing the CEFC is like throwing the baby out with the bath water,” Mr Katter said.
The government, which is gagging any debate on the legislation, has packaged 10 pieces of legislation together (including the abolition of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation) in effect not allowing Members of Parliament to vote on each piece of legislation on its merits.
