QANTAS needs protecting from uneven playing field, not to be sold off
2013-11-28

KAP Federal Leader and Member for Kennedy Bob Katter encourages Australians to stand up and protect its national airline from greedy share marketeers.

It has been publicised that Qantas is in talks with the Government about making changes to the 1992 Qantas Sale Act to allow it to have more foreign ownership than the current allowable 35 per cent.

Qantas has announced it is struggling against an uneven playing field with Virgin reaping rewards from dividing its business into separate national and international businesses and being part owned by Air New Zealand which is supported by boundless New Zealand Government funds.

“It’s about time the Government stood on Virgin hard and give Qantas a level playing field,” Mr Katter said.

“My grandfather put a lot of money into Qantas in the early days because he believed his country needed this service for the people.

“So he sacrificed his family’s money, as did hundreds of other families, to get a service for the people.

“This mob are sacrificing the service to the people to get money for their rich, slithering fund friends.

“Australia is run by north shore Sydney who own, or benefit from share market price rises.

“We have already the world’s most inflated share market process. These people have sold their country and their grandmother’s false teeth to own a bigger car then their neighbour,” Mr Katter said.
