KAP Leader and Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter has accused the Queensland Government of “thieving” assets that belong to the people following an announcement by KAP State Leader and Member for Condamine Ray Hopper that he would move in the Parliament to halt any asset sales proposed in the Commission of Audit.
“The Queensland Government seems to forget that they do not own these assets – the people of Queensland do,” said Mr Katter.
“To sell these assets is nothing but theft from the people of Queensland by the Crown.
“Historically in English-speaking cultures, the people have had a good habit of cutting the heads off tyrants when they take the people’s assets and land away.”
Mr Katter said that the process for selling assets should be the same as in corporate sales.
“Like in any corporate sale, it must be a majority decision of the shareholders when there is a buy-out of more than 19 per cent. To do otherwise is breaching company and corporate laws of Australia.”
Mr Katter said today’s announcement by Mr Hopper to move in Parliament to ensure no further sale of assets without a referendum would trigger action by the so-called ‘watchdog’ organisations to enforce protection mechanisms.
“It’s important for the people of Queensland to know that he crown does not own those assets, the people do,” Mr Katter said.
Mr Hopper, who today asked the Education Minister during Question Time when he planned to confess what schools would be sold, called on all ex-National party members who were now Liberals to support him when he moved the motion in Parliament.
“No doubt all these schools will be in rural and regional Queensland and this is just the start,” said Mr Hopper.
“If these MPs don’t support our motion, they will be turning their backs on Queenslanders.”
