KENNEDY MP, Bob Katter has called upon the Minister for Indigenous Australians, Ken Wyatt, to address the issues in First Australian Communities including Yarrabah and Palm Island, where residents have been cut off from the outside world due to Coronavirus restrictions.
Mr Katter is seeking a response from the Minister through a Question on Notice.
“While Australia is ‘locked down’, First Australian people in communities are ‘locked up’,” he said.
“There’s been rioting in Aurukun, demonstrations at Yarrabah and Doomadgee residents jailed.”
Mr Katter said Queensland’s infamous Aboriginal Affairs Act of the 1900’s had returned.
“You can’t leave or enter a community area without the permission of the white fella,” he said.
“These communities have no amenities, except for little corner store supermarkets.”
Mr Katter said the solution was to isolate North Queensland.
“North Queensland will remain COVID-FREE if there’s testing of fly in miners, and travellers are refused entry into North Queensland from Brisbane,” he said.
“Can’t we protect North Queensland by enabling the removal of what is now viewed rightly or wrongly as oppression?”
