Katter welcomes Special Olympics
2012-10-05

KAP Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter is calling on north Queenslanders to pull together to support athletes and supporters attending Cairns for the Trans Tasman Tournament (Special Olympics Australia) from 8-11 October.

At this celebration of ability, over 300 athletes with an intellectual disability from Australia, New Zealand and Tonga will compete in athletics, basketball, 7-a-side football (soccer) and tenpin bowling.

“We need everyone in far north Queensland to unite on this.”

Mr Katter said that this event would be a tremendous tourist boost and vastly more important, a wonderful event for the competitors involved and their families.

“I have a granddaughter that was born with Williams’s Syndrome so I know the necessity and value of such events as the event we are holding this week.”
