KATTER’S Australian Party Federal Member for Kennedy Bob Katter has introduced legislation that puts a 12 month moratorium on coal seam gas drilling across Australia.

"This moratorium will immediately stop irreversible destruction of water resources and farming land," said Mr Katter.

"Today the federal government is debating legislation requiring increased monitoring – what a joke.

"Monitor – no. Moratorium – yes. We must stop any destruction that might be caused by this largely unknown and rapidly expanding industry.

"The ALP and LNP have dropped the ball – they are too hungry for money.

"Landowners have had their rights stripped away. Our right to determine what happens on our land has been grabbed away in a race to collect money from the CSG industry.

"Are they going to use this money to fix our roads? Build new hospitals? Create drought‐ and flood‐proof dams? Generate clean energy? – No, they’re using this money to build even bigger, grand ivory towers in Brisbane.

"We need roads to carry our freight and commuters, we need rail to support our new industries and mines, we need power stations to support our manufacturers, we need ports for our exporters, we need town infrastructure for our hospitals, schools and other community services.

"Most of all, we need our politicians to think beyond a three‐year political cycle and invest in Australia’s future. "This is our land, land we have owned for generations, land we have purchased and land which we love and cherish. They should have no right to trespass onto our land, poison our waterways and destroy our future."
