Katter’s Australian Party will scrap Anna Bligh’s proposed Year 7 transition to high school, saving Queensland taxpayers over $620 million and removing pressure from families already struggling with high school fees.
State Leader, Aidan McLindon, made the announcement today with Federal Leader, Bob Katter, outside the Beenleigh State School.
"Families are struggling and this will only put more pressure on Queensland families. It will add an extra year of high school fees and associated costs with no educational benefit," said Mr McLindon.
"Struggling families cannot afford this and Katter’s Australian Party will put an end to this waste."
"Additionally, this financial fiasco will strain the resources of every high school in Queensland and the result will be detrimental for high school students as they undertake their important final years of schooling."
"Many high schools across the state are already at capacity and the enormous amount of infrastructure required is an expense the taxpayer should not have to spend."
"Even if money was not a factor, the plan would not result in the improvement of one child’s education."
"Unfortunately, money is a factor and Queensland cannot afford frivolous, wasteful expenditure."
"Queensland cannot afford to spend over $620 million on a program with no benefits when it needs to get its budget back on track and regain its triple A credit rating."
