KENNEDY MP Bob Katter joined Wayne Swan today in welcoming the announcement of further progress towards the development of the Northern Australia Clean Energy Corridor.
“The Government, specifically Mr Swan, who has been one of the architects of the national clean energy highway, should be praised for their continued support of this ground-breaking development,’’ he said.
Mr Katter said Copperstring was a vital protect for the future of the mid-west .
The Pentland Solar Biofuels project and Hughenden Windlab will directly create 3000 jobs.
“These projects will provide almost 4 per cent of Australia’s demand capacity for electricity
“The price will be comparable at this ‘geographical location’ with national grid pricing arrangements.
“Since operating costs will be negligible, the price in 10 years will, therefore, be significantly cheaper than grid system power.
“And, of course, all this energy is clean and for ever.’’
Mr Katter said he, and local State member Betty Kiernan, believed another four mines would come into production, generating an extra $10,000M for the Australian economy.
Mr Katter praised the Government, specifically Mr Swan, who has been one of the architects of the of the national clean energy highway.
“I would like to thank Mr Swan and the Labor Government for the continued support for this project,” Mr Katter said.
“This is an exciting development with the potential to provide a great boost for the resource industry in N.W.QLD and Australia.”
